a {british} boy party

in Celebrations, family

We went British this year as we celebrated Traveling Man’s big 4-0 on Saturday!  He almost shares

a birthday with our littlest who turned 3 on Sunday, so we gathered loads of our dear friends

and had the nicest time celebrating them both.

I couldn’t find a British flag quick enough, so I painted a loose interpretation on an inexpensive canvas.

I wasn’t so sure about the result but since my husband loved it, well, then it had to stay!

I was not going to make a cake this year because I had already made cupcakes, but at the very last minute I decided to

make a chocolate cake because I wanted the boys to have something more than a cupcake to put candles in.

The first cake stuck to the pan, so with only an hour before the guests arrived, I whipped up another cake and iced

it just as the doorbell rang.  Of course, I was in full party mode after that and forgot to take a picture!

I did get a shot of the oreo cookie cupcakes I made and the cute little cupcake toppers.

I think star paper straws make every drink taste better!

We even had my favorite sugar cookies, though I forgot to eat one!  (I remembered the next day!)

I have to laugh a bit at ourselves because once our guests arrived it didn’t even occur to us to

take photos!  Some photographers we are, right?  Here is a little peek of Landon, our littlest

blowing out his candles again on Sunday…

Here he is counting his candles… one, two, one, two…

Guess we’ll have to work on three and one for good luck!

We were all still in our pj’s after our late night celebration, but he was insistent on wearing his hat.

He gets whatever he wants on his day and besides, I thought it was so cute!

And, I at least got a photo of a slice of his cake!

We asked him how old he was and kept responding, “Landon!”  He sounds a bit like

my husband and I when we someone asks us a question in Danish!

He eventually started saying, “fwee!” and it was sooo cute!

Great pics and party idea, by the way! I love your impromptu British flag! And the sweets look super tasty!

What a great party! I think it’s hilarious you forgot to actually take photos. It only means you were enjoying yourself, and that’s great! The flag looks great, better then anything you could have purchased. The little ones are hilarious when it comes to birthdays, mine also avoided the “fwee” and whenever anyones asked him how old he was he’d answer “five”, which always led to confused stares from strangers. And I love the hat! He’s a stylish little dude at “fwee”.

Hey, your flag painting is cool, no doubt about it. :) Happy B-day belated to your guys. I hope “3″ is a good year for Landon! (It is the year of The Boss for us, Phoenix thinks he is the man in charge.)
Have a great week!

Happy birthdays guys! Looks like you had a blast, as it should be! I often find our best times are only captured in our memories b/c we’re usually too busy having fun to remember to take pictures.
I think the flag turned out fabulous, Tina! Necessity is the mother of invention, hm? What I really like is that you didn’t just create the flag to be random wall art, but for an occasion. So now that you’re keeping it, it’s an automatic sentimental thing. So now where will you hang it?? =)

@Bethany He definitely rules the roost in our home too!

@Juliette I was just going to paint over it, but Jack says he wants to use it in the boys’ room. We’ll see! We don’t have very many walls, so I’m not sure!
