I don’t know what the weather is like near you, but is is freeeezing here in Denmark! The days are still super short and most are very dark and grey. It is the time of year when depression rises and the winter blues hit hard… So why not get a head start on planning that summer vacation? Most places book up early so it really is an ideal time to make a reservation!
Last year we took an amazing trip to the Peloponese in Greece and enjoyed a restful stay at Paris Village cottages, which was on the mainland of Greece and far removed from the typical tourist traps. There no cheap souvenirs to be found in the area, and instead we dined at local restaurants with Yiyias and Papous doing all the cooking.
The swimming pool was great and there were tons of places to explore nearby, including the Blue Lagoon, plenty of great beaches, fun little towns, the mountains (truly untouched!), and road side views that took our breath away…
But if you are the type to just hang out and not go far from where you stay, this place offered a beautiful beach just across the street! This was definitely not the kind of place you would want to go to if you are really big into touristy things and loads of other foreigners being around, but if you want a true slice of untouched Greece… well, it would be hard to beat! It even had air conditioning, which for us was a huge bonus at the end of those hot days!
So, what is next for us? We are currently daydreaming of a road trip that might include parts of Southern Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, and a longer stay in Lake Como in Italy.
What about you? Any plans for the summer yet? Any destinations calling your name?

The Southern Tyrol region has had us looking as well; lots of fun stuff there! We’ve also been looking into a bike holiday (somewhere flat, lol).
Just checked out Paris Village’s website and I’m tempted to go
my husband & i are planning a 2 week trip to europe – a week in spain, and then splitting the last week in paris & london (and surrounding areas). he’s never been overseas before so we’re very, very excited!

I don’t have too many plans formulated yet this year – but a weekend in London and a week in Shetland……but for some warm weather this year I don’t know…..friends to visit in Rome, Lausanne, Paris…….who knows.
@Juliette Copenhagen is flat!
@Karen You should! We rented a car in Athens with no trouble and had the easiest time getting there. It was one of the most relaxing and beautiful vacations we have ever been on!
@ale Oh how fun for you guys!! What part of Spain? I’m sure you guys will have a blast!
@Di Having friends in warm places is a very big bonus!
Hi Tina!
How’s this for a plan… I just found out the closing costs on my house are almost 2 grand less than was originally estimated. So I’m thinking of taking that $$ and heading to Spain this summer. I have two friends there – one in Malaga and one in Madrid. So really, airfare would be my biggest expense as I’d have people to stay with and who know the good places to go. Yes, the wheels are spinning…
Hugs!
Beth
@Beth EEEK! Girl! You HAVE to do it!! If you remember, I gave birth to Landon near Malaga. It is one of my favorite places in Spain and I know you will have a blast!
I’m daydreaming of going somewhere COLD this “summer”. Maybe Australia or NZ? Living in the tropics has its perks but I miss wearing coats and boots! Looks like your Greek escape was awesome!
@Ana We have always lived in hot places, so this is definitely a big change for us too!
Hi
It is soooo cold in the US too.
We got snow yesterday…. again
Have a nice weekend
Marie
Hi Tina, I like the way your mind works
. I am always planning a vacation (whether these plans come to fruition is another thing
. My dream right now is to take our brood to Europe and rent a campervan. People here sort of look at me like I am crazy when I share this but it sounds fun and adventurous (even though neither my hubby and I are big campers…we have a family cottage in Eastern Canada where we usually holiday in the summer). With 5 kids, I thought camping over in Europe might be a good way to go. Am I crazy?
well around here there are no plans for summer vacations yet, though your ideas look absolutely amazing! our 2013 is one of those years in which we don’t know where we will be in the middle of it, so no plans for it now! but i’m with you, i’m longing for summer days or even just spring days! but here my friend, sorry to say that spring is arriving! days are much longer than in december, trees are blossoming and we have been having sunny days with a beautiful blue sky! it’s lisbon in its best!!! waiting for you here!
