a {bike} for traveling girl

Traveling Girl’s birthday is coming up next month and though we have been putting off purchasing a new bike for her for a while, she is finally getting too tall for the one we bought when we first moved here.  My motivation was somewhat impure… She has been growing like a little weed and has nearly reached my height.  Since I never bought myself my dream bike (practicality demanded a cargo bike for my commute with little people!), I thought it would be nice if the next bike we purchased was one we could share.

Which of course has brought on a great many discussions about color, style, basket types, and more!  Should we go super girly?
bikes1 Should we go mainstream and play it safe with black?

Or should be go white and light…or my personal favorite right now… mint!  Which one would you choose?

I have a vanilla white bike from eco-ride! Love this bike!

I’m a sucker for mint myself right now, so I’m no help here. I suppose black or white will make it less likely to be stolen, but I once had a red bike and it was nice to be able to quickly spot it among the sea of black and white at the bike racks!

At the same time, a plain bike can easily be dressed up w/cute panniers or a cheery basket. Remember tasseled handlebars? =D And maybe it’s because I played w/wrapping yarn around an old chair, but I think a 6-8″ section of bright detail (neon pink and yellow?) could be fun as well; maybe with that plastic craft cord from camp craft days making lanyards. =)

I like the mint. Pick a bike that does not stand out…plain bike will not be a “target” for the bike thieves. We bought our oldest a new bike for Christmas and went to get a lock and the guy said this bike will be stolen. WHAT!!! Then give me your best lock so we have a chance, please!!! 800dk we have a lock. Baskets are great to hold things I think having a bike you can share is great. The great part of the kids getting older!!

These are all so great… my faves are mint and white! Growing-up girls are such a treat… My “little” stinker Isabella has sprouted & is the same size as Cole – people think those 2 are the twins. I can hear my grandmother saying “Put on a brick on her head!” It happens too fast. But the consolation is sharing awesome bikes, I see! Twelve years FLEW…

love these – we’ve been starting to look at bikes since we need to stock up for the fam for our move!

HA! I wish we could have bought our soon to be 18 year old a bike! But, alas, the young man got 4 wheels so he can be mobile when he’s off to college! ;) Bonus: he got the car a couple weeks before his birthday, so I get to drive it between now and then, AND it’s a convertible!!!! :)

i absolutely love the white bikes!! they’re just girly and feminine enough. i’m making a promise to myself to ride my bike more often this year.

The mint is gorgeous! I love the little hint of color. Very girly and romantic. But I also like the classic darker ones, too. They seem like something the ladies of Downton Abby would ride. The all white bikes remind me of the ghost bikes I used to see in London, so they are my least favorite.

oh my these are so good!! i would definitely go with mint and a cute basket, though not too girly! i’d love to have a bike, though here is not that useful, regarding where we live and the times i need to get out of the house.

Isn’t it funny how we “do” for our girlies, but not for ourselves? I did the same thing in rationalizing tap shoes (which I have ALWAYS wanted to own and try)…my girlie is FINALLY my shoe size and needed them for a dance convention. LOL…now I can LIVE MY DREAM. I personally love the girly bike..what a pretty shot~
