a simple {yes}

They were not expecting us but they quickly set aside their school work with curiosity as we entered the classroom loaded down with bags full of supplies.  Initially we had planned to just simply drop by with the requested ponchos and a few supplies, but what fun would that have been?

Instead we helped the kids into their ponchos which was met with giggles and grins…

that bright orange felt a little silly!

But the silliness did not stop there!  As we read about water in Arabic, we all jumped in puddles, drank water in gulps, and even swam long distances.

We explained to the kids that when the rain came they needed to continue coming to school… and the ponchos would keep them dry even if they had to walk an hour to school.

We all smiled a bit to ourselves as we imagined little dots of orange on the rainy horizon.  What a joy to think of those little ones trotting along with dry clothes!

The play-doh was a huge success again…

The sounds of rolling, patting, and shaping filled the air…

Everyone joined in- even Parker who had begged to come along so he could see “the countryside.”

Thankfully they were very forgiving of those of us with *ahem* less than perfect clay skills!

Before we left we gave away hundred of coloring books, crayons, and other supplies to help them in their studies.   Each teacher was given his own set of books for his classroom.  Some were a little shy about acting out the stories, but others were very enthusiastic about using drama as a means of furthering the kids’ understanding of a lesson.

I will never forget the look in their eyes when we asked them to put their things in their bags.  They couldn’t believe that all those gifts were for them!

I was so proud of my kids for freely giving of their own toys and of their time.  Apparently our excitement was contagious because they wanted desperatetly to be a part and make a difference in other kids’ lives.

I hope very much that their actions speak volumes of who they are and who they will become.  They may not understand it all today, but one day they will realize that they can be an agent of change- a messenger of hope!

I am humbled by the magnitude of a simple “yes.”  Yes, I want to help.  Yes, I want to make a difference.  Yes, I can!

Hi Tina and family.
I have been reading both your and your husband’s blogs for a while now and I’m finally coming out to say THANK YOU! I am just overwhelmed to see all the good work you are doing in my native land, I’m a Moroccan girl living in the US.You have embraced and loved Morocco so much, you will be missed there. Good luck with the next chapter of your life in Denmark.

I’m so proud of you and what you have exposed your children to. I’m sure your actions will not go in vain. These kids in the classroom will forever remember kindness that you and your family has shown towards them.

The world has just become a better place because of you. Thank you!!!!

Something a simple as a poncho on a rainy day, your thoughtfulness will not be forgotten! :)

I love all the photos! The poncho is such a great idea and if it means more children being able to go to school then thats something everyone should be proud of! Great to see your children enjoying themselves and being a part of it!
I am sure all the people involved will remember and cherish this time always!
