strings of {garland}

It all started with this photo with the sweet banner in Layla’s room.  I loved the idea of using my paper stash in ways other than a card or scrapbook.

Then I saw Holly’s lovely garland from Lobster and Swan.  That really got my creative juices flowing.  I found myself browsing through my paper collection…

And then there was this sweet felt garland by Saidos da Concha.  Oh, yes!  I was on to something for sure!

This was just too much!  Goodness, I went lunging towards the pile of boxes where I began tearing at tape and cardboard until I found my sewing machine…

A few minutes with a circle punch, some paper, and this little sewing machine…

And it all started to come together so beautifully.  At first we tried it on our little white Christmas tree, but it got a little lost.  Something this sweet deserved a special place of honor.  Right here.

Could you see yourself making a project like this?  As I listened the steady whirring of the sewing machine I found my thoughts drifting.  What other materials would work?  Vintage papers would be amazing!  And what about brown paper bags or scraps from other projects?  What else?

I made a pair of buntings for my niece for Christmas. They were out of fabric, but I had played around with linen paper scraps and translucent paper before. I think doing something w/translucent paper and plastic (thin, like overhead projector sheets) would be really cool to hang in a window! Sort of like a modern stained glass. =)

Juliette, that is such a sweet idea! Patterned vellum would be amazing!!

I’m so glad you went into more detail about this one! I was IN LOVE when I saw your picture the other day and knew it had to be of your making. Good luck with the move and the good-byes.

Man the possibilities are endless! Adding to Juliette’s idea – I bet getting messy with some alcohol inks and acetate would make for a really pretty window treatment! Also – left over wrapping paper, magazines, even some nice fabrics (felt, muslin, etc). Love this idea! Thanks for sharing!
