in Denmark, family

This new land of the Vikings was proving to be a rather tall sort of place and she felt very aware of her short squatty petite size.  There were worse issues to have in life and this one did not feel very bothersome… that is, until she went shopping for her new bicycle.  Every bicycle seemed a bit large at first glance, but she assumed that it was likely just her novice eye.

While strolling around town, she was instantly smitten with the prettiest bike in a creamy white with a leather saddle and handles… glorious!  Timidly she asked to test drive it… only to discover that even this small bike was far too big for her *ahem* short stumpy little legs.  The shop owner stifled a laugh while eying the little girl bikes.  Hmph!  “Surely there must be other shorties petite ladies in this Viking Town,” she thought!

So her search continued until she came upon a bicycle that was so heavenly… so perfectly vintage… so utterly modern… so, so… indescribable.  She pinched herself just to be sure she was not dreaming.  Sucking in a deep breath, she asked the shop owner if they by chance had anything for someone under 5’4″ 5’2″ and much to her great delight he affirmed that indeed they had just the bicycle.

After dropping the seat to it’s lowest position, she slid on and took it for a test drive.  It had been over ten years since she had ridden a bike and this fact became apparent very quickly as her hands began to tremble, the steering wheel gave wobbly little jerks back and forth, but off she went without too much incident… other than almost running into a five year old who almost plowed her down.  (Yeah, you WISH she was kidding!)

Picking up speed, this little maiden voyage was beginning to feel like destiny.  She had found THE ONE!  With the money bellowing from her pocket she nonchalantly asked the price.  Oooh, a little more than she had hoped, but still within her budget.  “What colors does this come in,” she asked with feigned indifference.  Black or red. Oh, dear.  But she had plans… she had dreams… she was going to be the Traveling Mama on a turquoise bike riding off into the sunset…

Okay.  Maybe not.  Maybe it was time to face the fact that while her dreams may have been the wrong color… they were not the wrong size.  Who says she cannot be the Traveling Mama riding off into the sunset on a red bike or even a black one?

So, today this Traveling Mama needs you help.  Which would you choose?  Red or black?  Red says, “Hey, Copenhagen!  I’m here and I don’t mind being seen!” While black says, “Hey, Copenhagen!  I’m a classy Mama and I don’t need to be flashy to be stylish.”  Or maybe the black bike with the red saddlebag?

Leave a comment telling me which one you would choose by Thursday, July 9th @ midnight PDT and I will send one random winner a card kit by Archiver’s which comes with envelopes, pretty papers, and more!  And, yes, if you are reading this, you are eligible so please leave a comment.  :-)

Bikes by the Danish icon, Velorbis.

Red…to me it just seems to be more classic and vintage. =)

Tough choice. But I say go BOLD. Go red. =)

Oh, red, definitely! :)

Definitely black with the red saddlebag… then you can switch out to a different saddlebag if you feel like it. Black says “stealthy power… even from one so ‘petite’!!”

I’ve been dreaming of a red one for some time now, I love velorbis, they have a shop nearby where my mother lives, and I love looking at their bikes. I say go for the red one, Denmark doesn’t have a lot of colors in it’s nature so I think we need to make our days happier by adding colors other places – like your new bike. Hope you’ll love it :-)

I’m gonna say black with the red saddlebags. Let your accessories do the talkin’ girlfriend! ;) Who knows maybe you’ll find some fabulous turquoise ones so you don’t have to let that dream die completely!

Thanks for your reply! So now it is letting me comment. Yippee!! Here’s what I had said:

I say go for the red saddle bags for some whimsy. They will look oh so very stylish.

Love them both. If you plan to change your bag like you do shoes, than go with the black. But I think the red one is fun, energetic and will easily be seen – that 5 year old will see you coming :0) Have fun!

I can’t help but think that a red bike will make you feel happy on a grey day, a black bike will just be transportation. Which ever you choose I hope you’ll love it and get much enjoyment.

I love red! My husband thinks black is my favorite color. Red shows passion. Go for it. Be bold. Show the world what you have to offer.

Hmmm, what a dilemma!!! The practical side of me though would say the black, cause it will look good IF you later find a turquoise saddle bag to switch out the red one for, giving you choices & color!!! Good luck deciding!!!
