Too beautiful to be seen, the Fulah doll represents the modest woman in the Arabic world. An Arabic mother must choose between Fulah and Barbie- should a woman be covered or not? Men believe it is a means of protecting their wives from the perverse eye of the world. Some women say it is a prison while others believe it is a way to heaven. I have heard that some believe that for every drop of sweat on their brow they earn “ajer” or favor with God. But at the same time I have seen women going totally western, wearing their tight jeans and sleeveless shirts. It can definitely give a mixed message to the foreign women who are trying to find out where they fit in!
