Artisan Ice Cream in Copenhagen at Østerberg

A few weeks ago we shared some our favorite ice cream shops in Copenhagen, but we have one more that is an absolute must for locals and visitors.  Applying the principles of her scientific background, Cathrine Østerberg has created some of the most delicious artisan ice cream we have ever tasted.  Her shop, Østerberg Ice Cream, is perfectly inviting with it’s pure design that is accented with the subtle sweetness in the art created for her shop by a friend.  Once guests approach the ice cream counter, they will find further delight in Cathrine’s smart approach to her ice cream presentation.  Starting from the left, one will find flavors that are very familiar, such as vanilla and chocolate.  As the eye moves right, the flavors begin to become more exotic, ranging from mango and passion fruit to tamarind and Matcha.

Begun as her final project for University, Cathrine very cleverly used science and her father’s exotic fruit import business as a starting point to create her ice cream shop that truly embodies it’s slogan, “Taste the World.” With options such as Jackfruit and Red Dragon Fruit, one can travel round the world in this petite ice cream shop located in a leafy residential area of Copenhagen.   (And for anyone with a milk intolerance, the sorbets are some of the best we’ve ever tasted!  I recommend chocolate brownie sorbet.  TO DIE FOR!)

Cathrine is so charming and welcomes every guest with a smile, believing fully that the experience of her ice cream comes not only in a great product and a well designed space, but more importantly, the joy of feeling welcome and happy.

Now my mouth is watering! Her shop is lovely too! I am still a huge fan of icecream/gelato as opposed to the yogurt craze that has sprung up here in the states. I am just not a fan of adding every topping you can think of to the dish on top of that it is hard on this mama’s pocket.

It’s one of the best ice creams/sorbets I have ever eaten, too. Seriously, crazy good!

What a beautifully simple and stylish inc-cream shop. I’d be a regular that’s for sure!
