I have such a nice little treat for you today! We are going on a little visit to one of my very favorite Danish duo’s studio, Meyer-Lavigne, who are most known for their quirky and whimsical designs, including the adorable face vases you might have seen in your favorite design magazine. (At least that is how I first discovered them!)
Not only are Kristine and Sabine enormously talented, they are also very welcoming and delightful to chat with, a fact that I found out the day we went to visit them at their studio in the super cool Meat Packing district in downtown Copenhagen.
As soon as we walked in I had to suppress the urge to squeal… OK, I might have let out a little “eek!” But I couldn’t help myself! Every inch of their studio is a lesson in styled perfection, which I found out later in our conversation is due to the fact that these ladies also do a lot of styling for magazines such as Bolig and Bolig Liv.
I was truly in awe of all the projects these ladies had going and completely honored that they allowed us to see some of their top secret projects that will be hitting the shops soon, such as their wood topped jars and money banks.
As we sat and chatted about the struggles of being an artist and staying fresh in our creativity, my enthusiasm for Kristine and Sabine was growing by the second. Not only did they go to design school and spend years perfecting their art, but they are friends who believe in each other and their work. Oh, yes, and they are moms who have learned to balance art, kids, husbands, and the busy life that happens in between!
I adore the unique designs they create with these vintage porcelain dishes. No two are alike and each tells a little tale of whimsey and humor.
