Traveling Mama Cherry Blossoms-14

The first time one of my Danish friends recommended visiting a Cemetery I had to try not to make a face.  “Politeness first,” I thought, as my friend went on and on about how she loved to go there and walk the paths and enjoy the nature.  My only view of cemeteries up until that point was not pleasant to say the least.

But, when in Rome, do as the Romans, and when in Denmark, do as the Danes, right?  The Danes treat their cemeteries with the deepest of care, creating stunning gardens with winding paths and wide lawns.  We recommend visiting Bispebjerg Cemetery around the third week of April to catch the cherry blossoms.

The blossoms are quite extraordinary and my heart skipped a beat when we came upon the trees bursting with pink while a steady hum of bees buzzing about filled the air.  There were at least 100 people trying to take photos of these spring beauties, so we had to wait patiently for our turn, and my husband entertained himself by taking photos of me.   I hope you don’t mind me sharing a little of both of our photos?

Tip:: Tourists have caught on, so arrive early to get the least obstructed photos.  Expect a quiet but serene environment.

We went their Friday and yesterday too, and it definitely is a beautiful place around this time! As I wrote on our blog yesterday, I first came across the place three years ago, and then there wasn’t many people nor tourists. The social media have probably helped to share it among the people of Copenhagen 😉
There was of course a lot of people Friday and Monday too, but I think it’s better than visiting during the weekend. Just a tip, ha.
And about those cemeteries – I wasn’t used to take a walk at a cemetery before we moved to Copenhagen. It was a place for grief and silence, not for walks, picnics and holding hands, but my view on that changed when we moved to Copenhagen 😉 All though I still find it a bit bizarre.

Maybe we were there at the same time! And good to know about cemeteries. More a Copenhagen thing, rather than a Danish thing…

Thanks! I love this Chanel Interlude lipstick:
It’s pale and works great with a neutral look. I wear it to the gym every day to keep my lips moist. 🙂
I also like to put this Chanel Constellation lipgloss over it just to make it last longer and add a sparkle sometimes:
