I am flying to Amsterdam this weekend to speak at the Meet the Blogger Conference and I am feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness because this will be my first time traveling alone… ever. We have always traveled as a family and I have never felt nervous about traveling with kids and I have flown with a group or with a friend, but this? My heart starts racing every time I think about getting on an airplane alone. What will I do sitting there all by myself? Oh, wait. I am actually a little excited about that part! I think the last time I slept on an airplane was back in the 90′s when I flew to South Africa! I have a big stack of magazines to pack and I might actually get to do this really crazy thing called “reading” which is another thing that I haven’t done on an airplane since 2000.
Instead, my biggest fear is actually getting to the place where I am staying on public transportation because while I am annoyingly directionally sound in a familiar environment, I turn into a complete idiot when I need to use a train or a bus. It’s like my brain melts and falls out.
Maybe you know what it is like to be afraid to travel, whether alone or even with someone?
I have been having little chats with myself lately that go along the lines of, “Buck up, Missy! You are strong. You are brave. You can find your way via a stinkin’ train from the airport. Now quit whining, ya’ sissy!” I promise that this style of pep talk is reserved only for myself… and my husband on occasion. If I were saying it to my kids it would be more like, “You can do it, sweetie! You are so strong and so brave! Mommy is so proud of you and I know you are going to achieve great things!”
Well, if you are at the Meet the Blogger Conference, please be sure to come and say hello! I absolutely LOVE connecting with fellow bloggers, which is exactly why I will be embracing my independent side and traveling to Amsterdam this weekend!
Here are some of my favorite finds for the weekend that I think you will love, too!
