With only four days left in the States, we are feeling very excited (and a little nervous too!) about our upcoming move. I remember when we moved to Morocco… there was excitement mixed with dread because I knew that living in Morocco was going to push my every limit. And it did! But the amazing thing about it was that after accomplishing so much in three years… learning everything from the Arabic language to how to make my own pizza dough and fig jam… well, I guess I do not feel so nervous about Denmark.
It always feels a bit surreal… this time just before such a dramatic change. We know that life is about to be turned upside down and inside out and yet we are at peace. We are ready to set out once again into the big, wide world and see just how these next few years will change not only our world view, but also the simple things like how we get to work and the clothes we wear.
I feel incredibly honored and delighted to have this opportunity to explore the world and share in yet another culture. I do not remember a day of my life when I have not either been dreaming of living overseas or occupying a place in another country… so, in some odd sense it feels like we are going home… even though I know next to nothing about Denmark, it’s people, or even where we will live.
I miss my bed. The kids miss their toys. Our bags are mostly packed and the tickets are waiting to be used. It’s time… almost. Just four more days until we board our airplane and begin the next adventure! I wonder, what would you do if you were in my place? Where would you go? Who would you see? What might be the last thing you would want to eat?
