just me-little miss {chatterbox}

I have heard it said that after living overseas for an extended period of time to expect the food at home to not taste quite as good as one might have hoped.  Somehow in our minds we build it up to be way better than reality, but I am going to say this in my politest-my-mom-who-taught-me-to-have-manners-reads this-blog-kind-of-voice… Liar, liar, pants on fire!  The food is just as good as I imagined it- maybe even better!  I already miss the grocery store and it’s only been a few hours since my last visit.

We took the kids to Publix today, plopped the two boys down in one of those shopping carts with the car attached and two steering wheels and headed directly to the bakery for our free cookie.

This was actually Parker’s second time in a car cart.  About three days after we arrived my Traveling Man ran to the grocery store to pick up a prescription.  Apparently Parker spotted the car carts and asked Daddy if he could ride in it.  My Traveling Man told him that they didn’t have a lot of time and didn’t need to buy anything.  Parker looked straight at him with his most serious face and said, “find something.”  Apparently Daddy caved and called to let me know they were going to be a little late.  In the background I could hear “beep!  beep!  Ooooh!  Daddy, let’s get one of those!”

So, yes, yes, we are enjoying the food and the hunt!  I am checking out a few gyms… you know, to balance out all the food frenzy.  I have missed working out so much, which I know makes me kind of weird.  It was such a thrill to start my week off with a bit of kick boxing, though my back and shoulders are protesting a bit.  Am I alone in starting the year off with a new exercise regime?

Well, I guess I am feeling a bit chatty tonight.  I’m off to watch a bit of tv LIVE… as in, current shows, not recorded years ago!  SOOO fun!

I’m loving that you are loving the super market. We actually just got a Publix within walking distance from my house. Love it.

Oh and yes… my hubby and I are doing P90X. So hard, but TOTALLY works.

Hey and let me know your CHA plans sometime. I don’t want to miss you there! I think we are going to all try to go out to eat!

The last time we were home I was just boggled by all the CHOICES at the grocery store! It was so hard to show self-restraint and not throw everything into the cart. DH’s family spent most of their lives overseas as well, and he’s told me hilarious stories, such as his mom going to a US grocery store for the first time in years and spending what would probably have been 1 month’s food budget on that first shopping trip alone! She just kept piling that cart higher and higher with everyone’s favorite snack/cereal/what-have-you, and the kids’ eyes just kept getting bigger and bigger, lol. It was like Christmas and Easter and the Fourth of July all wrapped into one.

But tell us, have you hit the craft stores yet? Found any new crafting goodies? Do tell!

OMGosh Tina….there is so much I need to learn about you. Your life and travel is fascinating.

I totally laughed about the supermarket. Honestly I think I feel just like Parker when I go to the USA. The shopping there is amazing to me and I am only in Canada so I can’t imagine the difference to far away countries supplies.

Tina!!!! It’s just a joy and delight to read all of your EXCITEMENT since returning home. It gives me a giggle and a HUGE smile on my face. There truly is something about a grocery store when you haven’t been near one for a while isn’t there. Oh and as for the Car Carts (trolleys here in Oz..hahaha)… Jorja is a HUGE fan… there should be more of them at the shop, keeps them quiet and makes for quite a pleasant shopping experience. hahaha

xx Sarah

I totally agree with you about the food. And those supermarkets – how I miss them and free samples, too! I remember after 4 years of being overseas, I was at Kroger’s and had my mouth open when I saw the salsa aisle. I hadn’t know there so many kinds available!

I found your blog via Spain Daily and the Corner View. How lovely it is. I have itchy feet right now and want a new adventure for myself and my little family in another land. We’re from the UK, live in the Netherlands and had 2 years in the US. We love the experience of new and exciting things to discover and we too love visiting Publix when we pop back over to the US for vacations! Enjoy your time.
