It happened sometime around the eve of her 13th birthday. There was an undercurrent of adulthood making it’s way into our little baby and rather than freaking out over it, we decided it was probably best to roll with it. I was terrified of the whole idea of being a mom of a teen, but actually (so far) it has been pretty awesome because now I have an amazing friend who loves to shop with me, paint nails together, chit chat into the long hours of the night, and, of course, decorate a cool modern teen bedroom together.
We have started transitioning her room from it’s tween state to something that is a little more cool, modern, and grown up while still maintaining a little bit of girliness. Since taking these photos we’ve tweaked things a bit but let me take you on a little tour…
The main thing I have not been able to decide on is the artwork. Hailey and I painted this one together, but we both liked the swan there too. Which one do you prefer?
I love that Hailey is using a table that she made herself in wood workshop at school and it looks super cool with her wedge sneakers and a stack of her favorite books, headphones, and magazines… but it just got a coat of darker grey paint.
We have also yet to decide whether to leave this round side table as is. We found it at a flea market and loved the shape, but haven’t decided whether it needed a coat of paint or not.
Her desk area has been cleaned up a bit and modernized. She loves her Ferm Living Brass Cup and Hay trey (which she stole from mom!) The Print is from Finny and Zook and the cross painting my own work.
