Sometimes the best discoveries we make while traveling are those that are unplanned. If we had stuck to our original plan, we would have been eating bratwurst and schnitzel in Germany another night, which would have been great too but instead we decided at the last minute to pop over to Strasbourg, France because we heard it was so pretty.
Having flexibility in a schedule can be tough these days when so many of us are hopping on airplanes to reach our destinations, but a road trip + apps like booking.com allowed us to cancel our hotel reservation in Germany and book rooms at the Novotel at the last minute. It ended up being one of the most magical travel experiences we have ever had as a family. Here is why we highly recommend a trip to Strasbourg, France, planned or thrown in as a last minute treat…
We arrived just after dinner with only a few hours left to our day after our drive from Germany. After throwing our bags in the room, we nearly ran outside to catch the last bit of daylight as the sun dipped below the horizon. We walked the streets, simply taking in the beauty of the golden hour as every little turn and bend brought a new moment of happiness and discovery…
Everywhere we went, people were out laughing, dining, and enjoying the warm air of a perfect summer evening.
The shops were closed but that did not bother us. We said over and over how happy we were that we stopped in Strasbourg. It is definitely worth the trip and something that made us so happy for the flexibility that comes with a road trip!
Have you ever had an unplanned discovery while traveling? Perhaps it is one of your favorite recommendations to your friends and family, too?
