in family

1. What is his name?  Jack Fussell Jr.  Yes, that’s right.  No middle name.  I thought it was so funny when I met him that he had no middle name!  He got called Junior around his house quite a bit, though, since his Dad is also a Jack.  When we first arrived in Morocco and were learning how to introduce ourselves and say the names of our family members everyone thought it was so strange that my husband has the same name as his dad.  Apparently people don’t do that here, but tend to name their first born Mohammed.

2. How long have you been together?  We are getting ready to celebrate our 9th anniversary on May 29th!

3. How long did you date?  Now this is a very interesting question.  We were just talking about this with some of our new friends here.  We met when I was only 16 and even though it was love at first sight for me, Jack did not share in those feelings (he is eight years older… there are laws about those kinds of things!)  Well, one birthday down and many months later we developed a strong friendship which eventually led to Jack realizing I was his destiny!  (His version of the story sounds a bit different… more like this little girl followed me around for a year and I finally caved!)  So, we knew we were going to get married, but my parents were like “No way!  What’s up with the old man?”  I turned 18 on October 24th and we went on our first date.  That same week my Dad asked if I still wanted to marry Jack.  Oh yeah!  So my Dad and Jack met and my Dad gave his blessings to us.  We got engaged on November 8th, so I say all that to say that we dated for 16 days before we were engaged.  But we had a 19 month engagement (which I do not recommend… much, much too long!)  Check out the engagement portrait!

4. How old is he?  Jack turned 36 this year, but he has happily reminded me every time I tease him that I am much closer to 30 than he is to 40.  This generally shuts me up!

5. Who eats more?  Oh, good grief!  Do I really have to answer this one?  Okay.  He eats more FOOD and I eat LOTS more dessert.  Life is short, right?

6.  Who said “I love you” first?  Hmmm… those days are a bit blurry now.  I’m pretty sure it was me… I was madly in love with Jack and I never tried to hide it (well, in the beginning I did a bit.  He told my best friend that I had a crush on him, so I went up to him and said, “I don’t like you and when that changes I’ll let you know.)  Maybe that’s why it took him so many months to warm up to me… the man has his ego to protect!

7. Who is taller?  Jack is 5’11” (he always says he is 6′.)  I am 5’1 (and a half inch!)  I have to take everything I can get, right?

8.  Who is smarter?  Jack is very, very smart, but not terribly studious, especially when he is not interested in a subject.  He barely graduated high school because he was too busy doing other things to study, but by college when he was able to study something he was interested in (Music) he graduated with honors!  I am a total nerd (even as I write this blog I am thinking about studying!) and will study till my mind turns to mush.  I was always an honor student and pushed myself really hard in school.  I tried to graduate college before I turned 21, but I missed it by two months because I took a semester off when we got married (what a slacker!)

9.  Who does the laundry?  I don’t think my husband even knows where the washing machine is…  He has run laundry a couple times and each time it has been disastrous.  He said he just wanted to help.  I told him to scrub the toilet and mop the floor next time.  I like doing laundry so it’s a good arrangement for us.

10.  Who does the dishes?  Jack sometimes helps, but I tend to be the one standing in front of the sink.  In my next house I want a dishwasher!

11.  Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?  Jack.

12.  Who pays the bills?  I ALWAYS handled our finances before we came overseas, but we have to go to all the different utility offices to pay the bills here so Jack has taken over the bill paying.

13.  Who mows the lawn?  We have about 5 feet of grass and we have yet to see a decent lawn mower here, so we pay someone $5 to come hand cut it every couple weeks in the summer.  We haven’t needed our “gardener” in almost six months.  In the States Jack always cut the grass and took SO much pride in our yard.  (I added a pic of our house in the States for you to see.)

14.  Who cooks the dinners?  Me.  Jack can barely boil water, but he is the official coffee maker in the house (2 years with Starbuck’s helped his skills.)

15.  Who drives when you are together?  I ALWAYS drove in the States… I get car sick (especially with Jack driving!)  LOL!  But I haven’t been driving since we got here because I don’t know how to drive a stick shift.  Jack has been teaching me, though, and just yesterday I drove us to our friends house and back without stalling.  (I thought I was going like a 100mph and then Jack told me I was only going about 25.  Guess that’s why everyone was passing me…)

16.  Who is more stubborn?  we both are!

17.  Who proposed?  Jack did. Check out those GREAT engagement pics!

18.  Who has more sibling?  I do.  I have one sister and two brothers.  Jack has one sister.

19. Who wears the pants in the house?  He lets me think I do and I let him think he does.  LOL!  We truly believe marraige is about mutual respect and honor.  We make decisions together- it works for us!

*Well, that’s a little about us.  It’s amazing how quickly time goes by…  you meet an utterly amazing person and the next moment you are looking back on years of wonderful memories.

Tina, I’m so glad I found this post. It gave me a glimpse of your beautiful marriage. I have been blessed with a good husband for 13+ years. God has been good to me and I’m always thrilled to read people speak highly of their spouse and marriage (unlike the media). Have a great day.
