the heat beat him upside the head

butterflybirthday-2

This morning was all about decompressing.  The baby shower we threw for my girlfriend on Saturday was amazing.  I cannot wait to share all the photos with you!  Unfortunately on Saturday evening Jack started to feel sick and we ended up staying up all night trying to get him feeling better.  Sunday morning we had to take him to the hospital because he was dehydrated and was suffering from heat exhaustion.

It’s funny because our Moroccan friends are obsessive about being out in the heat and we usually joke about how weird they are about having the kids’ heads covered.  If we do not have Landon covered from head to toe (even when it’s 100 degrees outside!) someone always stops us and pleading tells us “shimsh” (sun.)  Maybe it’s time to listen to the locals about the sun and heat?  Maybe they know what they are talking about!  They have an expression here that translated means “the sun beat my head.”  I never understood what they were talking about before, but now I get it!  Thankfully Jack is feeling a lot better today and just a little tired.

So, anyways!  Back to decompressing… I just needed to sit at my craft table and relax so I played with Kristina’s colors and made a birthday card for someone special, who will remain unnamed because she reads my blog!  I LOVE the inspiration colors this week!

I love that skirt and aren’t those shoes gorgeous?

They remind me of these shoes by Steve Madden…

Which remind me of these shoes from Promod.  You might remember these shoes because I originally wrote a post about them here.  Do you know that my Mother-in-law actually tried to buy them for me when she was here?  They had them in my size and they fit perfectly, but the sales clerk wouldn’t sell them to me.  WEIRD, right?  I know!  Apparently they are the floor model.  I asked if they had another pair (in ANY size) in the store and they said no.  They said they couldn’t sell them in case they got another pair.  I, trying not to be too obnoxious, asked very politely why they could not make the next pair a floor model and sell these to me.  Nope.  That’s not how the system works.  So, now three months later the floor model pair is still sitting in the store and no other pairs have ever come.  I think it’s stupid.  Yes, I’m saying the system is stupid and should be reconsidered, but hey, I’m a foreigner so what do I know?  🙂  I guess sometimes the locals know better (I’m thinking about the heat beating us!) and sometimes… well… sometimes things need to be reconsidered!

Alright, I’m getting off my soap box and heading to Pizza Hut with Jack and the kids to celebrate Father’s Day!

Oh, my, Tina! I hope poor Jack in feeling better now. The heat and the sun can be really dangerous! Last summer we went to a beautiful place in the uruguayan seaside called “Punta del Diablo”. Wild beaches and the such. Well, the 1st day we went to the beach my son Rodrigo was completely covered in white clothes with a bathsuit, a big cotton hat and a long sleeved t-shirt, we gave him sips of water all the time… and still, that night he got really high temperature (almost 39 celsius)for the 1st time in his life and there wasn’t a doctor to be found in 50 miles around! Later I discovered that the ozone layer is so much damaged in the Southern Hemisphere than in the Northern.
Anyhow, enjoy your Dad’s day celebration!

Yes, it is not easy being a foreigner. It is hard to get used to the little things that locals do different!

You have been busy while I have been gone. I love the alien card. I love the 4 month old page. Thank you for the post on the dress code of morocco. I knew some of this, but it is always nice to hear about it from someone who lives over there.

This card is great and I can’t believe you can’t get those shoes–craziness! Thank you for the sweet comment on my blog!

My oldest got a little to much heat at Easter (here in Texas) and almost fainted. The bad part is, I think once you have had it, you can get it easier in the future. 🙁

Take care!

Hi Tina,

Thanks for your sweet comments. I have always admired how clean and simple (LOOKING…I could never make cards this sweet and styled) your cards are. I hope your son is feeling 100% better.

Hope Jack’s feeling better. Such a bummer. It’s funny, in Indonesia, even if it’s hot, ppl would wear a long sleeve shirt. Why? So that they don’t get darker 😛

Love your card. So elegant!
