Traveler’s Inspiration Challenge:{one}

There is something about a new thing that just makes my heart go aflutter!  The smell of a new baby is on the top of my list… what is it about new life that smells so sweet?  Oh, and I love the smell of a new pack of crayons and the smell of a new car?  Divine!

I love new adventures too, as you might have already guessed.  Trying new foods… seeing new sights… hearing another language for the first time…It makes me all giddy inside as the world comes alive and I sense that I am on the verge of a very good thing!

I’ve been contemplating for a while how I could connect our love here at Travelingmama of travel and creativity.  You all have been sending me your wonderful travel photos and I thought it was just too selfish of me to keep them all for myself.  There is a whole world out there waiting to be discovered and I don’t know about you, but I am ridiculously excited about exploring it and being inspired by it!  Since summer is when many of us travel, I thought it would be fun to do a little travel inspiration challenge so we could enjoy each others adventures!

This challenge is dependent on you all submitting your photos as inspiration.  Whether your photos are from your college trip to the Great Wall of China, your family vacation to the Taj Mahal, or even your latest trip to the Atlantic we all would love to see them!  Consider this challenge almost like a little scrapbook of our photos!  Maybe I could get a little map that we could fill with all the countries and cities represented in the challenge?  Hmmm…

Okay, I don’t know about you all, but I am totally pumped about getting started! Here is the card I made from the inspiration photo:

journeycard-1-of-1

I couldn’t resist using my travel Bella for our first Travel Inspiration Challenge!  Isn’t she so cute?  I paper pierced all of her clothes and accessories, which took a while but was so worth it!  I love how she looks a little bohemian but she is still very chic with her little heels.  My kind of girl!  This week I used the bright colors as inspiration.  Next week it might be something completely different that inspires my project!

Are you ready to learn how you can participate too?

Here are the details:

Who: Anyone with the slightest hankering for creativity can participate.  You also must have a blog or online gallery, such as Splitcoaststampers, Flickr, or Twopeasinabucket where you can post your projects.

What: It is totally up to you how you interpret the inspiration photo.  Whether it’s a card, a scrapbook page, a photo, a sewing project, a painting… even just sitting on the floor with your kids and playing with clay or paints!  Just post a photo of your project with a description of what inspired you from the photo!

Today’s inspiration is one of my personal favorites that Jack took of the Moroccan slippers my Mother-in-law bought while visiting us.  I love to send these home as gifts, especially to little girls because they are like little princess shoes!

When: I will post a photo every Friday through the end of summer here at Travelingmama.  You will have one week to complete the challenge!  Yeah!

Where: After completing your project post a photo of it to your blog.  You are welcome to use the photo above on your site to show your inspiration!  Then come back here to Travelingmama and submit a direct link to your post on Mr. Linky.

OH, and did I mention that I have some goodies to send to the first five to link their projects on Mr.Linky?  Yeah!  I have some photos, some postcards, and a sneak peek will go in there of a little project I have been working on!

*Please e-mail your photos, which should be no larger than 500k, to me at travelingmama@pobox.com

Oh, this sounds so fun! Love that card too! This might be a silly question to some, but how can I make sure I dont send a picture larger than 500k? I’m still new to all this! 🙂 Thanks!

Oh my gosh! Can I be a bit of a dork? When I realized that I was up past midnight, my first thought was…’I wonder if she’s posted her challenge?’ So I popped over and can you imagine how thrilled I was to find out it was a picture of those adorable beaded shoes! That was one of my favorite stories you told. So I am excited that it was the first inspiration you chose!

I can’t play along until I get back home, but I will definitely try to make it by the deadline–thanks for starting a new challenge, so fun!

Thanks for a great challenge. I used a photo from home (Croatia), but it’s a travel photo for most people :-). I hope it’s okay. I look forward to your future challenges!

Tina, I SO love this idea!! I’m also sketching something that may turn cool for the challenge. I love those slippers too and used to buy them for friends while in Melilla, lol!
Just a question: the photos we send to you may be used by you as the inspiration challenge image, right? I’d love that a pic of one of our trips could inpire others to create things, whatever they are!
Hugs and thanks for this fun idea!

Oh I’M SO EXCITED TO PARTICIPATE!!! I love that you are allowing photography to be included!!!! My photo will be taken tomorrow as we celebrate the 4th of July.

I need a clarification: Are you soliciting two things? 1-something creative inspired by your beautiful slippers & 2-photos from our travels to be used as inspiration for future weeks? Or will you be using your travel photos for inspiration and you were just talking about making sure our photos for the challenge are small enough?

Sorry, I’m a bit of a detail NUT. You’re great!

BTW, how is it that some commenters have actual pictures by their names? I love to see everyone’s faces.

i’m not a scrapper or card maker, but this does get the juices flowing! I will see what I can come up with…I may have to wait a week until the husband is done teaching and we can work on some projects so I unpack my desk stuff. My office is currently the room of disassembled furniture… =)
