Landon turned five yesterday and we threw him a little family birthday party to celebrate his special day.
He asked for a strawberry shortcake birthday cake, though I am quite certain that he received some shameless nudging from his big brother who has been craving my strawberry buttercream for over a week! (I paired it with the best birthday cake ever!)
I created a simple party, made with things that I had on hand (and I promise to share more about them soon!)
His excitement was contagious and none of us could help but smile and laugh with him as he came to see his party table all set up. A child’s sense of wonder and delight is a pretty special thing and I love to indulge it as often as possible!
We asked him when he woke up if he felt any bigger and he looked down at his legs a little perplexed. ”They don’t look any bigger,” he said. Then he stood up, looked down again at his feet, and said, “Yep, I think I am just a little bigger today.” His friend at school confirmed that he, too, thought Landon looked just a little taller. I asked him to show me just how big he is now… “Thiiiis big!”
He was very proud of blowing out his candles (five plus one for good luck!)
Then it was time to blow out the candles with Dad (who had his birthday the day before!) and open gifts. Sigh… I love birthdays! Especially the extra special ones for kids. It really is such a wonderful thing celebrating with them, isn’t it?
Did you have a favorite party when you were a kid or maybe have thrown one for your own child that was super special?
