whole {lotta} lovely

When I came across Marie’s amazing blog, Whole Lotta Lovely, I could not help but be inspired.  Her bedroom in particular made me want to jump right up and create something with these colors.  I love all the layers on her bed.

I found myself doing just that- adding layers to my bedding- just before we left Morocco. I tend to change my linens significantly with the seasons.  During the winter I had our flannel sheets on the bed, but during the summer I had our much loved Ralph Lauren sheets with a pale red floral pattern as the first layer. Next up was the gray coverlet with an even smaller floral pattern and my  large print turquoise duvet at the end of the bed for the nights when the desert air got chilly.

Though my color palette might be a bit different what I like is all the dimension, texture, and scale of the different elements that Marie has in her room.  If you would like to learn more about how to dress your bed check out this article over at Decor8.  Holly had some really great tips that I’m going to remember as I shop for some new linens to take with us to Copenhagen.

Also, when I get a chance I want to create using these colors as well!  Who could go wrong with charcoal, smokey gray, coral, and raspberry?  Do you think we could also apply the same design principles to say… a card or a scrapbook page?  These are the kinds of things I have found myself thinking about lately- scale, dimension, texture, and layers.  They are always with us when we create whether we think about them or not, right?

Ok, here’s a question – how many people actually buy all their bedding to match their duvet/comforter? Do you? I would love to dress my bed like this, but most of my sheets (especially my winter ones), don’t match, so I can’t fold the top cover back like that.

I love those red sheets in this photo! And yes, all those colors together are gorgeous! I definitely don’t have the gift of putting colors together that many people have – I guess that one was left out when I was made. 🙂
